Welcome Directors of First Impressions!

Welcome Director of First Impressions. What do we mean when we say that? What does reception mean? The art of receiving: welcoming guests, establishing contact, facilitating the reason for the contact. Phrases like: How may I help you? How can I make you welcome and comfortable in our reception area? May I offer you a glass of water? Would you like me to hang up your coat? It takes a specific skill and mind set to perform this role. And, it takes an exceptional person to do it well.

The National Receptionists Association was created in 1991 when we initiated National Receptionists Day. We hold this day of recognition every year on the second Wednesday in May. We started it because we wanted to distinguish the role that a receptionist plays in business and note that it should not be combined with Secretaries' Day or Administrative Assistance's Day.

The role of a receptionists is quite different. Receptionists are front line personnel and often take the calls that she/he will identify should be handled by a secretary or someone else in the company. The primary role of a receptionist is to represent the company in the image the company has developed through sales and advertising. A good receptionist will maintain and sometimes improve on that image. Part of the role of a receptionists is to determine the nature of the customer's or client's needs in order to forward the caller to the appropriate person.

Our association is meant to provide a community for receptionists, establish recognition for their skills, and recognize outstanding efforts toward excellent reception.

We will soon have details about more news and activities, upcoming events, and our annual meeting in San Francisco posted on our website. Please contact us if you are interested in joining or gifting a membership to your receptionist, or attending the annual meeting. We also welcome corporate sponsorship of National Receptionists Day and the National Receptionists Association. Sponsorship enables us to reach more receptionists and offer more benefits to membership.
